Commencement Schedule of Events
Each graduating student will receive up to five (5) tickets for Commencement. Tickets will be distributed prior to graduation as follows:
- Thursday, May 9: 10:30 am - 1:00 pm in Alliot Lobby; 1:00 - 4:00 pm in the Student Life Office
- Friday, May 10: 8:00 am - 12:00 pm and 1:00 - 4:00 pm in the Student Life Office
- Saturday, May 11: 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm in Alliot Lobby
- Sunday, May 12: 8:30 am - 10:00 am at the Bookstore, Alliot Student Center
Master candidates can pick up tickets from their program administrative assistant.
Honor tassels for summa cum laude, magna cum laude & cum laude graduates will be available for pickup at the same times also.
Baccalaureate - Saturday, May 11, 2013
Families are encouraged to attend the Baccalaureate Mass. No tickets are required. Additional seating will be available in McCarthy Arts Center where the Mass will be broadcast live.
Commencement - Sunday, May 12, 2013
Immediately following Commencement there will be a reception on the lawn in front of the Library. In case of rain the reception will be moved to the Tarant Recreation Center.
Commencement will take place in the Ross Sports Center. Tickets are required. Live broadcasts can be seen in McCarthy Arts Center (no tickets required), on the College cable channel or at www.smcvt.edu. Graduates, please plan to be at the Alliot Student Center no later than 9:15 PM (For Honored Guests - Saint Edmund's Hall Room 113 by 9:15 AM) to robe and form the academic procession. The following locations will be used for assembling (rain or shine):
Seniors will be placed alphabetically by the Student Life Staff. Masters Candidates will be placed by degree by Sarah Hodgson. Faculty/Staff will be lined up by the Faculty Marshall, George Ashline.

For standing or sitting, covering head or removing cap, simply follow the example of the marshall and/or your class president.
On first taking places, remain standing for the National Anthem and Invocation. Rise by rows when going up to receive degree. Receive degree from President and then shake his hand. After official conferral of degree, switch tassel from right to left. At the end of the ceremony, follow marshall and stage group in recessional. Recessional will continue to the reception area on the lawn in front of the Library.
