Honors

Saint Michael's fosters and recognizes honors work in many ways.

Honors Program

The Saint Michael's College Honors Program is a vital part of campus life. It provides opportunities and challenges for high-achieving students throughout their Saint Michael's experience. Students are invited into the program as part of the admissions process, or enter the program later based on excellent academic achievement during their first year at Saint Michael’s.

Phi Beta Kappa

The College is one of only 280 institutions in the country allowed to shelter a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, which has been devoted to excellence in the liberal arts and sciences since 1776.

Delta Epsilon Sigma

Delta Epsilon Sigma, the national honor society for colleges and universities with a Catholic tradition, has had a chapter at Saint Michael's since 1941.

Honor Societies in Fields of Study

In addition, Saint Michael's is home to a number of other national and international honor societies which induct many of our finest students each year. Nine discipline-specific honor societies are active on campus.

Latin Honors

Graduating seniors earn “Latin Honors” based on cumulative grade point average. Summa cum laude is awarded for a GPA of 3.9 and above; Magna cum laude for a GPA of 3.6 to 3.9; and Cum laude for a GPA of 3.4 to 3.6.

Honors Work in the Major

Finally, many academic departments have opportunities for honors work independent of the college-wide Honors Program. Consult the catalog descriptions and department chairs of individual majors for information.
