Library room 209 - Special Collections - houses rare and valuable books, prints, photographs and other special materials owned by the library. Library & Information Services has exclusive control over the use of the Special Collections room and its contents. The following groups have access to Special Collections.
Library Staff have full access to Special Collections, individually and in groups.
Faculty who have offices in the library have access to Special Collections for use of materials or for individual research, as well as department or group meetings when no other suitable meeting space is available. This room must be reserved through the Executive Assistant to the Director of Library & Information Services.
Non-Resident College Personnel
Faculty, staff, administrators, alumni and trustees have access to the Special Collections Room for use of materials or for individual research. Non-resident personnel do not have access to Special Collections for departmental meetings, except by special permission from the Director.
Undergraduate and Graduate students, may use Special Collections materials but may not use the Special Collections room for personal study. Materials are retrieved by a staff member and/or selected in the presence of a staff member. Materials must be checked out at the circulation desk and must be used in the reference area of the library.
Non-SMC patrons have access to Special Collections for use of materials, at the discretion of a librarian. Non-SMC patrons must register at the circulation desk, indicating name, address, telephone number, purpose of research and type of materials to be used before any items are retrieved from Special Collections. Materials are retrieved by a Librarian and must be checked out at the circulation desk. They may be used only in the reference area of the library.
Any group (including library staff) wishing to use the Special Collections Room for meetings, must reserve the room through the Executive Assistant to the Director of Library & Information Services.
