Student Employment in the Library
Saint Michael's College Library employs approximately 50 part-time work-study students during the fall and spring academic sessions, and at least 5 full-time work-study students in the summer. The majority of students hired as freshmen continue to work in the library for all 4 years that they are a student.

The library student assistant provides routine support services to include: answering phones, providing general information to the public, charging and discharging materials, searching various computer databases, stack maintenance, shelving materials, shelf reading, general office duties (filing, typing, photocopying, etc.), special projects, and related duties upon request
Administration – provide clerical support for the Director and Executive Assistant
Archives – assist the Archivist with cataloging and maintenance of historical materials. Work independently in a non-public service area.
Bibliographic Services – assist the cataloging and periodicals staff in processing new books and periodicals
Circulation - assist the circulation staff in providing front desk coverage to assist patrons and visitors to the library.
Collection Services - assist the acqusitions and collections staff with ordering and receipt of library materials and gift books.
Interlibrary Loan - assist the ILL staff in processing request for items to be loaned and/or borrowed.
Reference and Instruction - provide clerical assistance and support services to the reference staff.
Reserves - assist in processing class reserve materials.
Special Skills/Qualifications Needed:
All positions require some familiarity with computers and other types of office equipment (copiers, fax machines, etc.), attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with the public.
