Online databases provide access to newspaper, magazine and journal articles, reports, studies and surveys and cover a broad selection of publications, some scholarly and some for a more popular audience. Most databases allow you to limit your searches by date or range of years, by type of publication, language, etc.

Access World News
Access to more than 500 million news articles from 8,000-plus sources from around the world. This collection features not just newspapers but also broadcast transcripts, blogs, video, and web-only content from news organizations. About 100,000 articles are added daily to the ever-growing database, which has material dating back to the 1980s.

Proquest Newspapers
Includes international, national and regional newspapers with coverage dating back to the 1970s.  Best to use for big name papers like New York Times, Washington Post, and Wall Street Journal.

CQ Researcher provides in-depth reports on current topics, including timelines of important events and pro/con lists by experts in the field.

  • Statistical databases 

Statista is a statistics portal that integrates thousands of diverse topics of data and facts from a wide range of sources onto a single platform.  Sources of information include market researchers, trade publications, scientific journals, and government databases.

Statistical Abstracts database indexes annual volumes from present back to 1800's

Statistical Insight
Statistics available as indexed tables from federal, state, and international intergovernmental (IGO) publications; searches American Statistics Index, Statistical Reference Index, and Index to International Statistics; provides links to web sites, governmental and nongovernmental; allows keyword searching.

Pew Research Center Presents research on social and demographic trends; studies behaviors and attitudes of Americans involving family, community, health, finance, work and leisure; utilizes public opinion surveys with social, economic and demographic data analysis
