Language and Culture Programs

The Applied Linguistics Department (ALD) offers special English language and culture programs for groups of students and professionals from around the world.

ALD schedules programs throughout the year, and programs vary in length depending on the needs of each group. Furthermore, ALD customizes programs to benefit groups at all levels of English proficiency, from beginning to advanced.

Courses are developed to meet the needs of any group with special technical, academic or professional interests. For example, professional groups can improve their technical English, while student groups can prepare for university studies in the United States.

Our program in English Language and U.S. Culture features short-term English language study combined with an introduction to U.S. culture. Programs of this type provide plenty of interaction with Americans both on and off campus, and take advantage of the Vermont location through field trips to local points of interest such as the Vermont State House and government offices, Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream factory, Shelburne Museum to name a few, and can even provide trips to Montreal and Boston.

For younger students, exciting evening activities can be arranged such as movies, rock climbing, mini-golf and more.

Whatever the needs of your special group, the ALD can design a program especially for you.
