Applications for International Students

Direct Admission is offered to students who are qualified to study in the undergraduate program and not required to first complete an English or pre-academic program.

Conditional Admission is offered to students who, before they can enroll in the degree program, must complete an English-language or pre-academic program or submit the necessary language test results.

What Happens After You Apply

Your application and supporting materials will be forwarded to the Admission Committee for consideration. We will contact you should we have any questions or require additional materials. Within two weeks (but usually sooner) of receiving the application, we expect to provide you with a decision.

If your application is successful, we will send you an official acceptance letter and ask you to provide financial certification and a copy of your passport if you have not done so already to issue and I-20 form. This form will enable you to apply for and receive a Student Visa at the US Embassy or Consulate in your country.

A deposit is required to register for classes and reserve housing on campus.

Completing International Applications for Post-Graduate Study

International students should follow admission procedures for the program to which they are applying:

MATESOL    |    Clinical Psychology    |    Education

In addition to completing an application, international students must:

• Submit a bank statement or financial certification from employer verifying that you have sufficient financial resources to provide for academic and personal expenses while attending Saint Michael's College.

• Submit a photocopy of your passport page showing the correct spelling of your name and the date of birth. (I-20's cannot be prepared without this and your financial statement.)

• We require English language translations of foreign transcripts. We reserve the right to request an applicant to submit evaluation(s) of official transcript(s) by an approved outside agency that verifies the attainment of the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree if needed.

• Submit verification of one of the following minimum test scores below.*

Minimum Test Scores:

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): 550 (79 on Internet-based test)
IELTS (International English Language Testing System): 6.5
MELAB (Michigan English Language Assessment Battery): 77-82
CAE (Certificate in Advanced English) /CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English): C
APIEL (Advanced Placement International English Language): 3

Conditional Admittance to the MATESOL

If your English is not strong enough to embark on a full-time Master's Program in TESOL, but your other application documentation is acceptable, Saint Michael's may offer you conditional admittance into its MATESOL program. This means you may complete our Intensive English courses before transferring to the Master's Program.

*Exceptions may be made for applicants whose native language is English or completed an undergraduate degree in an English-speaking country.

Instructions on International Applications to English Language Programs

To apply for a short-term, non-degree program, you must provide the following:

1. Completed application (short version)
2. English-language test results if you wish to enter the Academic English Program. If you do not provide test results you will admitted to the Intensive English Program.
3. Official secondary school transcripts in English
4. Financial certification for one or two academic semesters
5. Copy of photo passport page

Not Required: Letter of Recommendation, Writing Sample

What Happens Next

Upon receiving your complete application and supporting materials, we will begin processing your application as quickly as possible. We will send you the I-20 Form, which along with the acceptance letter and your financial documents, will enable you to apply for and receive a Student Visa at the US Embassy or Consulate in your country. A deposit is not required to attend.

To apply for a short-term, non-degree program, you must provide the following:

3. English-language test results if you wish to take content courses. If you do not provide test results you will admitted to the Intensive English Program.
4. Financial certification for one or two  academic semesters
5. Copy of photo passport page

What Happens Next

Upon receiving your complete application and supporting materials, the Committee will review your transcripts and application as quickly as possible, and, assuming all is in order, we will send you the I-20 Form along with course registration information. Your I-20, along with the acceptance letter and your financial documents, will enable you to apply for and receive a Student Visa at the US Embassy or Consulate in your country. A deposit is not required to attend a short-term program.
