Meet The Program Director

Joanne LaBrake Muehlberger directs the Saint Michael’s College Internship Program and was the co-director of the Center for Organizational Development at the College from 1984 - 2002. She also serves on the faculty of the M.S.A., teaching Professional Effectiveness, Managerial Presentations, Women in Leadership and Team Development.

Joanne maintains strong ties to the business community through her work as a corporate consultant, designing and delivering management and leadership training programs to businesses.

Among her corporate clients are: Ben & Jerry's, IDX Corporation, Burlington Electric, Mylan Technologies, Champlain Water District, IBM, National Life Group, Merchants Bank, Pizzagalli Construction, Vermont Gas Systems and NRG Systems.

Her areas of expertise are communication, public speaking and professional development. Joanne has training in Stephen Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and the Malcom Baldridge Certification Programs. She is also a volunteer consultant for the United Way Loaned Executive Program. Her extensive corporate experience combined with her graduate teaching enhances the overall credibility of the Saint Michael's College Internship Program.

Evaluation Process For All Partners

Especially for Interns

During the semester, you are expected to have regular conversations with your site supervisor regarding your work performance. At the end of your internship, your site supervisor will complete the Intern Evaluation Form. (Direct your site supervisor to the Intern Evaluation form so he/she can provide you with feedback on your work.) Your site supervisor will conduct an exit interview with you, giving you both positive and constructive feedback. This will be an opportunity for you to discuss your overall work performance. At this time, you will receive a copy of the evaluation for your records. Your site supervisor will also send a copy directly to your faculty supervisor. You will also find a Program Evaluation, which is designed so that you can give our office valuable feedback regarding our effectiveness.

Especially for Site Supervisors

During the semester, you are expected to be available to your intern on a regular basis. Your intern will thrive not only on positive feedback but also on constructive feedback properly given to them. At the end of the semester, please complete the Intern Final Evaluation form. This is another opportunity to provide valuable feedback as well as closure. Following the formal exit interview, please give a copy of the evaluation to your intern and mail a copy to your intern’s faculty supervisor. The faculty supervisor will integrate your feedback in the final grade. We would also appreciate it if you would complete the Program Evaluation form and forward it to the Internship Director. This information has been provided in the introductory packet that you received at the beginning of the semester.

Especially for Faculty Supervisors

During the semester, you are expected to meet with your intern on a regular basis, discussing their progress and ways that he/she can integrate the classroom learning within the site experience. Please contact the site supervisor, creating an open and collaborative relationship between the College and the site. This information can be found in the introductory packet that you received at the beginning of the semester. You will receive a final student evaluation from the site supervisor. This grade is to be incorporated with the grade that the intern has earned working with you and fulfilling the academic component. The recommendation is 60% (Faculty) and 40% (Site). You will also receive a timesheet with the final site evaluation, confirming that the intern has worked the required number of hours.
