Saint Michael's Master's in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (MATESOL) now gives you more flexibility than ever. You can complete the Master's in TESOL in as little as 14 months by spending two summers on our beautiful campus in Vermont and taking the remaining courses online wherever you live in the world.
In six weeks of study the first summer, you take 12 credits:
- Foundations of Linguistics
- Theory and Methods of TESOL
- Master's Seminar
- Practicum I
Then, add in four online courses during the fall and spring semesters (12 credits):
- Curriculum and Syllabus Design
- Reading and Writing in TESOL
- Computer-Assisted Language Learning
- Special Topics in TESOL
Finally, in your last summer you take 12 credits:
- Oral Skills in TESOL
- English Grammar
- Testing and Assessment in TESOL
- Practicum II
And, with successful completion of your Capstone Paper, you have completed your 36-credit Master's in TESOL! This way you get the best of both the campus experience and the flexibility of online learning.
Your first summer semester will introduce you to the lively international atmosphere and close-knit community of our campus. You will get to know the classmates that you'll be interacting with in future semesters online. And you will sample the joys of the surrounding area: Burlington on Lake Champlain, buzzing with summer festivity; and the Green Mountains, with Boston and Montreal just a day-trip away. In the second summer, you will reunite with your friends to finish the program - all within four semesters! Or if you are in no hurry, you may complete the program part-time at a more leisurely pace.
