Saint Michael's ties Harvard in student newspaper competition
Saint Michael's student newspaper The Defender was named by the New England Society of Newspaper Editors to Honorable Mention status with the award to be presented Thursday, May 3, at the Dedham, MA, campus of Northeastern University.
The top college newspaper award is being presented to The Quinnipiac Chronicle with Runners-up awards going to: The Brandeis Hoot, The Harvard Crimson, UConn's The Daily Campus, and The Defender (St. Michael's College).

Current Defender editors Kendra Gravelle of Moultonborough, NH, and Bethany Prendergast of Sandwich, MA, will receive the award at the New England Society of Newspaper Editors ceremony May 3. The award also covers the fall semester, so it is recognition as well of the work of then-editors Kelley Bureau of Claremont, NH, and Jordan Kilty of Massena, NY.
