us newsSaint Michael's College earned the rank of 90th amongst National Liberal Arts Colleges in the 2013 edition of The Best Colleges 2013 guidebook. The rankings were announced September 12th and will be in stores on September 18. The granddaddy of rankings, U. S. News always garners attention from families seeking colleges and from alumni wondering about the status their alma mater.

Over the past two decades, the U.S. News college rankings, which group schools based on categories created by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, has grown, according to U. S. News, to be the most comprehensive research tool for students and parents considering higher education opportunities. The organization characterizes National Liberal Arts Colleges as those that emphasize undergraduate education and award at least half their degrees in the arts and sciences, such as English, biology, physics, chemistry, history, the visual and performing arts, and so forth.

"The U.S. News rankings have always been of interest to students and parents, and of course that matters to us," said Saint Michael’s President John J. Neuhauser. "We hope our strong position brings Saint Michael's College to the attention of those students who can benefit from the exciting intellectual, welcoming community of this college," Dr. Neuhauser added.

Among the many factors weighed in determining the rankings are academic reputation, graduation and retention performance, class size, percent of faculty who are full time, SAT/ACT scores.

Coincidentally, the University of Vermont ranked 92nd in the Best National Universities category.
