"It's great to be able to work somewhere that you're passionate about, and to give back to Saint Michael's that gave so much to me," said Nicole M. Stefanowicz '09, who was named Assistant Director for Annual Giving at Saint Michael's.
Stefanowicz, formerly Community Outreach Specialist for the Committee on Temporary Shelter (COTS) in Burlington, started work at Saint Michael's September 23rd. She is a 2009 cum laude graduate of Saint Michael's, with a major in sociology/anthropology, and minor in Spanish.
As manager of the college's fund-raising phonations, Stefanowicz will work with student callers to connect with current parents and alumni to bring them news of the college, and of the student experience. She will also visit parents of current students in Southeastern Massachusetts and around Vermont to tell them about the college today.
"The great thing about students on the phone," she said, "is that they share their personal experiences." She and her callers will be fund-raising for scholarship, technology, and student life needs.
Stefanowicz worked at COTS in various capacities of increasing responsibility from 2009 to the present, starting as AmericCorps Community Support Staff, and moving to Shelter Staff, Development Assistant and Volunteer Coordinator, and Community Outreach Specialist. She brings her particularly apt COTS experience where she helped manage their six-night phonathons, with 350 volunteers at once.
A habit of community service
Stefanowicz was very involved with community service as a student, serving on the MOVE Core (leadership) Team from 2006-2009, during which time she created an award-winning collaboration between Saint Michael’s and the COTS Family Shelters. She also went on four extended service trips in the U.S. and abroad, and was selected to present a workshop on "Creating a Successful College Volunteer Program" at the national IMPACT conference in College Park, Md., in 2009.
Stefanowicz won the top service award in her 2009 graduating class - the Frank G. Mahady Service Award.
Nicole and her husband Michael reside in Winooski.
