Multicultural Community
Our undergraduate students come from 38 states and 13 countries, and so we are a diverse community. However, we prefer the term “multicultural” because we believe it is important to celebrate everyone’s unique culture. Our “Got S.K.I.L.L.S.” program, a campus-wide campaign for dignity and diversity, brings speakers and programs to campus throughout the year, and encourages student attendance through an incentive program. The Multicultural Center, located on the 2nd floor of Alliot, is a hub of activity as students visit to share their cultures, enjoy conversation or simply relax and do homework.
The Center for Multicultural Affairs sponsors numerous activities focused on leadership development, peer mentoring, and educating one another about our diverse and culturally interconnected world. The student-run Martin Luther King Jr. Society and Diversity Coalition are creating awareness of social issues and sponsor popular events including the SOAR (Summer Orientation for Academic Excellence and Retention) New Student Orientation program, Fall Harvest Carnival, International Festival, the Martin Luther King Convocation, and the annual MLK talent show.
