The William J. Haggerty Family Scholarship
English major with a minor in Philosophy
I chose Saint Michael's College because it was local, the great location, and the solid academics. Burlington is a great location for a college student. Saint Mike's English Department was well known which was essential to me. Also I won a scholarship that gave me considerable financial aid so that I could attend.
Currently, I am a writing coach, which I generally enjoy doing. I have scheduled hours where I meet with students to work on their papers. We go through the students essay collaboratively. This includes content and form. As a writing coach and an English major this experience shows me something practical I can do. I get to work with a wide variety of students.
Living on campus is an experience "in and of itself." The games and the events the school hosts are entertaining. Freshman year I really enjoyed the fall (first semester) in the Quad because it was such a unique experience. After college I would like to be able to write professionally. Long-term I would like to continue with my writing and engage in some sort of research.
