Book Review: The Two Latin Cultures and the Foundation of Renaissance Humanism in Medieval Italy (Ronald G. Witt, page 101)

My history major at Saint Michael's taught me how to analyze complex information, to evaluate sources, and to present my findings in a way which is informative, interesting, and relevant. I am pursuing a master's degree in history at the University of Massachusetts Boston and I hope to eventually earn my doctorate. My focus is on Late Medieval and Early Modern Europe. While I was applying to graduate programs, it was great to mention professors I took courses with at Saint Michael's and have a professor at another university know their work - that is really an indication of the quality of professors we have.

I am most proud of my involvement with Saint Michael's Fire & Rescue, both as a student and now as an active alumni member. I have been fortunate to be a member of a family of volunteers who are dedicated to each other and to the surrounding community. The department is not only directly involved in the protection of life and property in the area we serve but in the greater good of the community as well. Just recently, for example, a group of student members participated in a service project at Camp Ta-Kum-Ta, a local summer camp for kids with cancer and kids who have survived the disease. My experience with Saint Michael's Fire & Rescue cannot be matched anywhere else.

My advice to incoming students at Saint Michael's: Get to know your professors and become involved in activities that interest you. Professors at Saint Michael's love to form meaningful and productive partnerships with their students. Even after you graduate, they will go out of their way to help you succeed in whichever career path you choose.
