What brought you to St. Mike’s? How did you choose?

I’m about to sound really impressionable, but you know those postcards they send out with the beautiful pictures of the landscape? I got one of those and just fell in love. My high school was really small, so I was looking for a small college to go to as well. I love skiing, too.

What was it like coming all the way to Vermont from Florida? Do you like it up here?

I love it here. It’s obviously a lot colder, but I haven’t noticed a ton of cultural differences. Actually, everyone is a lot nicer. You can leave your stuff without having to worry that anyone will still it, which is nice.

What’s one incredible memory or experience that you have had here so far?

I did POW over the summer, and that was awesome. I met a lot of people, and one of them is now my best friend.

What clubs or activities are you currently involved in, or hoping to get involved in?

I’m involved in the Knitting Club, the Book club, and MOVE’s DREAM mentor program. I really want to join the ski team as well, if I can. I did join ShredMC, which is a ski club.

What has been your favorite class so far?

Last semester, I took my First Year Seminar, which was the Afterlife with Professor Trumbower. It was really interesting. We looked at a lot of different religions and how the each view the afterlife, and it was really cool to learn about all the different perspectives.

What about a favorite professor?

I have Professor Steven Doyon for one of my classes, and he’s also my academic advisor. He’s been super helpful. It was helpful to have someone that I already knew on the first day of classes.

Has your experience at St. Mike’s been different at all than what you were expecting?

Yeah, definitely. I expected it to be very academic, and not have a lot of time for extracurricular activities. I though homework would take up all my time, but I actually have free time during which I can participate in things.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I knit a lot, I read a lot, and I go into Burlington often.

Do you intend to study abroad?

I’m taking French right now, so I’m thinking about hopefully going to France.

Why did you choose to major in what you’re majoring in?

I’m super into math. I like the little details, and putting things into order, and accounting fit well with that.

Where is your favorite place on campus to hang out?

Definitely on the second floor of Dion.

Do you feel St. Mike’s has become your home away from home, and if so, how did it become that for you? How was the transition into college for you?

The transition was rough. Being so far away from home is difficult. All my friends go home quite often, and I can’t. But, I feel like it’s good to gain independence. St. Mike’s has definitely become my home away from home, I think mostly because of the people. My floor is super close and supportive.

What would you say to prospective students about the college process, especially those that are interested in St. Mike’s?

It’s a great place. I only applied to three schools, and I would say just go for it. Why not apply?

What do you want to say about the community here, or to your fellow St. Mike’s students?

I love everyone. I’d want to say thank you for being so welcoming.
