What do you like about St. Mike's?

The people. My friends here are like my family. I also like the small class sizes. There's a lot of interaction with your professors and they all address you by name.

What's your favorite class?

Essential Microbiology. I like the class set-up with weekly quizzes that help you keep up with the material.

Do you have a favorite professor?

Professor Donna Bozzone knows how to channel different parts of the class. She does a good job of keeping everyone focused and throwing jokes in there, too, to make it fun. It's all about bacteria and the environment - how it grows, what it does, how you can prevent it. We have a combined lab, too, so we get to design our own group projects.

What's your favorite spot on campus?

Sloane Hall is an interesting environment. You feel like you're in a restaurant off campus. It's a good change from Alliot.

Off campus?

Uncommon Grounds. I really like local coffee places and it's a great place to study when you need to get off campus and not have distractions.

What's one thing you've learned at SMC that's been surprising or inspiring?

Service isn't always the way you expect it to be. It doesn't have to be hands-on; it can be just talking to people. I worked at a home for the elderly and we just sat and talked with them. It was one of the most meaningful experiences I've had.

How do you give back to the community?

I started "Family Friends" with MOVE where we go to the shelter in Burlington and play with the kids there. I am also a tour guide, which is a great chance to share how much I love the school.

Have you studied abroad?

I did a mini study abroad through the philosophy department. For two weeks, we went to Guyana and worked at orphanages, homes for the elderly and a leprosy hospital. We got to see people who were marginalized from society and how they're cared for.

Have you had an internship?

I'm shadowing a physician assistant at Fletcher Allen, where I go in and see all the patients. It's clarified for me that’s the field I want to go into.

What makes you happy?

St. Mike's has taught me that being happy is being able to express yourself.
