What do you like about St. Mike's?

It's such a caring community. It's the little things, like if you sneeze, everyone around you says "Bless you." Everyone opens doors for you.

What's your favorite class?

Right now I'm taking Christians and Muslims, which is about the interactions between these two groups over the years. It's so relevant to what's happening today.

Do you have a favorite professor?

My first-year seminar professor, Elliot Sloan. We had to write a memoir and I'd just experienced a robbery at my house that was really affecting me. Talking with her while going through the writing process really helped me. As I wrote about the experience, we met a few times to develop my writing and she helped me express what I was feeling and going through, so it was a writing workshop and therapy session all in one. I can’t thank her enough for what she did.

What's your favorite spot on-campus?

JeanMarie 376. It's a little classroom with a couple of long tables and rolling chairs where I do all my studying. I discovered it during finals week my first year.

What’s one thing you've learned at SMC that's been surprising or inspiring?

During my Orientation Weekend, we did an activity that showed me how everyone is connected in little ways and how easy it is to start a connection with someone. Now I'm heavily invested in orientation, as an Orientation Leader last year, and I'm on the board.

In what ways do you engage or give back to the community?

I lead outdoor volunteer efforts like going to the organic garden once a week, beach-cleanup along Lake Champlain, a tree re-planting and picking potatoes at a nearby farm for a food shelf.

What do you want to do with your life?

I want to take advantage of the agreement we have with Vermont Law School to study environmental law there. That's really what attracted me to St. Mike's.

20 years from now, what do you think a favorite college memory will be?

My friends have a radio show and it's a lot of fun to go up into studio on Wednesday nights. We put together a mix of ridiculous songs: we'll play Christmas music, then dance music, then Lizzie McGuire.

What makes you happy?

I really like helping others. If I make someone's life a little better, even if it makes mine more challenging, being able to shoulder that responsibility is good for my soul.
