What do you like about St. Mike's?

I love its size because everything is so close together, so it doesn't take long to get to where you're going. Even though campus is close to my actual home, Saint Michael's feels like a home within itself. I'm always excited to get back after break.

What's your favorite class?

Child Development for Education. Our professor, Jenny Stearns, comes from England and she's so enlightened and passionate talking about children.

Do you have a favorite professor?

Professor Melissa Vanderkaay-Tomasulo who I have now for Behavioral Neuroscience. She always comes into class with a smile, even though the class is at 8 in the morning!

What is your favorite location off campus?

I love Mount Philo because it shows Vermont in its true beauty. I hold pride being a Vermonter born and raised. I'm kind of the tour guide of Vermont for all my friends. Up there on Mount Philo you can take Vermont in and realize that it will all work out in the end.

What's something surprising that you've learned at St. Mike's?

This past fall I lost my grandfather, and all the support I received from St. Mike's faculty showed that in times of trouble or tragic loss, you find those glimpses of hope in small ways, like the encouragement of phone calls from friends. It makes you want to give that back to someone in return.

How do you give back to the community?

I'm involved in the DREAM mentoring. My mentee is a Burlington High School sophomore and we meet every Friday. I like being able to make a difference in someone's life, even if it's small. I also do MOVE weekly activities like senior citizen visits or after-school games.

What do you do in your spare time?

I love going down to Burlington – I especially love going to the Art Hop in early fall. I just learned to snowboard last winter, and my suitemates taught me to ski.

What do you think you want to do with your life?

I want to become a special education teacher. Both of my grandmothers did that back in the day.

What makes you happy?

If other people are happy, I'm happy with them. Just seeing my mentee with a smile makes me want to be happy with her. I'm happy if it's sunny weather, whether there's snow on the ground or it's 70 degrees, doesn't matter.
