How did you hear about St. Mike's?

I'm actually from Colombia originally and the school that I went to has an association with Saint Michael's. The students come every summer for a month to study English. I never came because I moved to the States, but everybody does and my friends loved it so when I moved to the States I decided to apply.

Why did you choose Saint Michael's College?

I did not want to go to a really big school. Most of my class went to Florida State, so that's really huge. One of my cousins graduated from St. Mike's and she really liked it. When I came to visit her while she was a student, I really loved the community. I loved just everything; it's just so beautiful and she had a great time so I thought it'd be really good for me.

How have you made it your 'Home Away From Home'?

Well, I am from very far away so I try to get involved and try to stay busy as much as I can so that I’m not thinking about missing home. I have a great group of friends; we actually do call each other our family. They're all from different countries as well, so we try to be there for each other. Also, I work for Admissions and many of the people that I work for are like my mothers. I think you make those relationships with people that remind you of home.

Did you have any apprehensions about coming to Vermont or reasons that drove you here?

I wanted to leave Florida. I do love my parents and I have a great relationship with them, but I wanted to explore the world. I've always been very independent of them, although I'm an only child, and Vermont seemed like a very different place from what I was used to. I like the whole four seasons, it's very relaxed, and from what my cousin told me she really did like it here. I came to visit her when I was a sophomore in high school, she was a sophomore at St. Mike’s and I was not really looking at colleges yet, but I just fell in love with the school.

It's really easy to make St. Mike's your home. I haven't heard from a single person who doesn't like St. Mike's. I think it's a place for everybody.
