It's not surprising that the state of Vermont is a top tourist destination in the Northeast or that National Geographic ranked Vermont as one of the "50 Places of a Lifetime." There is simply so much to do here, no matter what the season.
Winter sports, of course, often come to mind when people think of Vermont. Saint Michael's is within 45 minutes of some of the best downhill and Nordic skiing in the East (at nationally known resorts including Smuggler's Notch, Stowe, Sugarbush/Mad River Valley and the Trapp Family Lodge).
Vermont is also famous for its stunning fall foliage and warmer-weather outdoor adventures. Students have access virtually right out our back door to world-class biking, hiking, rock climbing, river and lake kayaking and other adventures. Many excusions are led by the College's outstanding Wilderness Program.
Within an hour of campus students will find a number of charming Vermont towns to explore. The nearby village of Shelburne is home to the Shelburne Museum, one of the nation’s most eclectic museums of art, Americana, architecture and artifacts.
The village of Stowe is itself an internationally known travel destination, with upscale shops and restaurants.
North of Burlington lies Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom—with pristine roadways and hiking and biking trails. To the south you’ll find Montpelier, the nation’s smallest capital city, and southwest is Addison County, an agricultural valley that stretches from the mountains to the lake.
