The Women's Caucus's mission is to "improve women's work, study and life conditions in the community, to educate the community about gender issues, and to achieve gender equity among students, faculty and staff."
This furthers the College's mission "to contribute through higher education to the development of human culture and enhancement of the human person in the light of the Catholic faith."
The Women's Caucus recognizes that although Saint Michael's College has taken great strides in recent years, its culture still sometimes reflects its history as a male institution. The Women’s Caucus was formed to give staff, administrative and faculty women a stronger voice in our community and thus to take the College another step toward genuine equity. The Caucus has concerned itself not only with women’s issues, but also with family issues, and thus serves not only the women but everyone on campus.
The Women’s Caucus will continue to seek to be a resource to the community in the following ways:
- To develop discussion groups over current events relating to gender
- To serve as an effective advocacy group for women’s issues on campus
- To be a resource to the administration for advice on the impact on women of certain decisions
- To be recognized as an organization through which to raise consciousness of or resolve issues about gender, sexual harassment and other related topics.
