Examples of Student Work

Several of our art history courses involve primary research on local architecture and social history.  Some require students report their work via original Web sites, a sampling of which are below.  Students did all of the research and came up with a plan for organizing the Web sites.

Historic Fort Ethan Allen
Created by students in Art 381: Special Topics in Art and/or Architectural History of Vermont, this site won the George B. Bryan award for excellence in a Vermont research project, from the Center for Research on Vermont at the University of Vermont.

Winooski Mills
Also created by students in Art 381: Special Topics in Art and/or Architectural History of Vermont.  Both this site and the Fort Ethan Allen site, above, had substantial response from the public, chiefly from people who have searched for information about relatives who lived and worked at the fort and mills.

Shelburne Museum Collections
This site marks a new partnership with the Shelburne Museum, one of the nation's finest museums of art and Americana and only a 15-minute drive from our campus. Every other year, a class of students will add to research on the museum collections, further developing this this Web site begun in 2004.  The research here is quite diverse, including history of art, architecture and material culture from the 18th through 20th centuries.

Saint Michael statue photograph by Doug Early '06
Business major Doug Early '06 has developed a love for photography in his time at Saint Michael's College.  From Methuen, Massachusetts, he hopes that he and his father can build a dark room into their home to share work together. Two sample works of campus photography, Saint Michael (right) and the Emmaus Statues (below).
