Special Opportunities

Internships opportunities for biology majors include, but are not limited to:

  • Vermont State Medical Examiner’s Office
  • Shelburne Farms (environmental education)
  • US Fish and Wildlife Service
  • University of Vermont College of Medicine
  • Vermont Department of Health

Students may also informally “shadow” professionals in careers such as human and veterinary medicine or dentistry.

Research opportunities for biology majors exist in the following areas: 

  • aquatic biology
  • animal behavior
  • ecology
  • genetics
  • molecular biology
  • evolution
  • developmental biology
  • biology education

Student presentations at recent conferences include: Lake Champlain Research Consortium, Vermont Genetics Network, Posters on the Hill (Washington, DC), International Maize Conference (Mexico City) and the North American Benthological Society (New Orleans).
