Application Process

If you decide to pursue an internship, you must complete the following steps:

Step 1:  Attend an informational meeting: These meetings are held in September for the Spring Semester and January for the Fall Semester. The Academic Internship Director will notify you of the dates and times by e-mail. At this time, you will receive a Registration form to be completed before you begin the process.

     Spring deadline:  December 1st
     Fall deadline:  April 1st

Step 2:  Visit the Saint Michael's Internship website (www.smcvt.edu/internships):  Now that you're here, please read all information carefully. Develop a clear understanding of the value and responsibilities of the internship.

Step 3:  Update your Resume:  Resume Writing Workshops are available through the Student Resource Center.

Step 4:  Print your transcript:  If your GPA cum is 2.7 or above, print your transcript from Knightvision.  If your GPA is below 2.7, you can apply for a waiver.  Request a copy of your Unofficial Transcript from the Registrar's Office.

Step 5:  Contact sites:  Identify sites that are of interest to you. If you cannot find an appropriate site, contact the Internship Office as soon as possible.  The Director will work with you to identify a site.  All new sites must be approved by the Director and/or the Department Chair.

Step 6:  Arrange an interview: Once you have determined the companies/organizations that are of interest to you, contact the site supervisors and arrange interviews. The Student Resource Center offers interviewing workshops that will help you prepare for your interviews.

Step 7:  Make your site decision: Based on the results of your interviews, make your site selection. Notify the site supervisor that you accept their offer.

Step 8:  Complete application: The form is available here. TYPE the application directly on the web and print a hard copy. Get the signatures of your site and faculty supervisors, then submit your completed application to the Internship Administrative Assistant, Leslie Turner, in Klein 119.  Once your application is accepted, it will be forwarded to the Internship Office for approval. The Internship Director and Associate Dean will sign your application.  Once approved, the Internship Director will submit your registration information to the Registrar.  You cannot register for the internship on KnightVision.  This is the responsibility of the Internship Director.
