Toward Freedom seeks an intern to assist in the creation of a comprehensive and inclusive guide to independent media in the Northeastern United States.  Supervised by TF staff, the intern will work closely with others toward completion of the project.  This is largely a research position but may include other tasks dependent on the skills of the successful applicant.  Anticipated tasks include processing incoming information, conducting outreach and collecting information from new sources via phone and the internet, and summarizing information provided by media organizations.  The intern will gain valuable experience learning the inner workings of a small nonprofit alternative media organization, develop an understanding of the growing independent media movement, and participate in a significant research project that will result in a tangible product.

VHCB is a state instrumentality established in 1987 to provide funds for affordable housing and land conservation projects. A chief concern of VHCB is the high development cost on a per unit and square-foot basis. Intern should have knowledge of spreadsheet or database applications, and some understanding of community development. Intern tasks: (1) complete/verify cost information from VHCB financed projects using existing database; (2) categorize projects by type; (3) present results to illustrate trends; (4) review appropriate literature; (5) survey selected comparison costs; (6) summarize findings. FALL/SUMMER  Winooski Valley Park District is involved in the planning, acquisitions, and management of lands and waters within its member communities in the Winooski River basin for the purposes of conservation, environmental education, and passive recreation. Student also may assist with the coordination and implementation of WRCC's annual fundraising plan and public awareness campaigns. Student must have a commitment to end sexual violence through social activism and the ability to respect differing opinions and experiences. Student must be sensitive to survivors needs, have good communication skills, and the ability to cope with an emotionally challenging issue.
