WINOOSKI COALITION FOR A SAFE AND PEACEFUL COMMUNITY
Title: MEDIA COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR INTERN
Winooski is a very small city with a very large low-income population. For many years, Winooski has been without a newspaper. There are very few commercial enterprises interested in advertising specifically to Winooski residents, and, despite many efforts, the paper was unsustainable as a nonprofit, and even as an online-only endeavor. The community is still clamoring for a news-source. Many residents cannot afford a computer or internet access, so it is very difficult to reach the most needy residents with programs, services, etc. The Winooski Coalition for a Safe and Peaceful Community has formed the Communication Committee to address the lack of a publicly accessbile news source. Lately, we're getting excited about the idea of a weekly radio news show with an online companion. The Media Communications Director Intern will help create and implement a communication medium for Winooski that is accessible to all residents, covers a variety of interest-areas and operates at low cost (can be volunteer run). Intern will develop a news source: find out how to do it, what it will cost, recruit volunteers, plan and write content, create and implement a marketing plan. Intern will meet regularly with the Communications Committee to discuss progress and use the connections and resources of the committee to help get the project moving.
