Language & Linguistics

The minor in Language and Linguistics will prepare students to understand andlanghome appreciate the complexities of language structure, acquisition, variation and interaction as a basis for all human learning and communication. 

Linguistics is the scientific study of the nature and characteristics of human languages. Linguists are interested in understanding the properties common to all human languages through the study of linguistic structure (phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics), social use and variation, first and second language acquisition, and representation in the mind. The minor consists of six courses, for a total of 19-20 credits.
