Being eligible for exam modifications requires more than documentation. It requires attending to the details below. Please adhere to the following procedures so that you can ensure smooth sailing when taking tests. Once you read this document, please be sure to sign the form on the reverse side and return to Leslie Turner.
Early in the Semester
Please meet with Antonia Messuri, Director of Accessibility Services, and your professors early in the semester to outline any course accommodations and exam modifications that you need.
At Least Two Days Before Any Test/Exam
Remind your professor that you are eligible for extended time and a distraction free setting. (Please note that you must receive permission from your instructor if you wish to take your test in the Klein testing room as the professor has the right to assign you a separate classroom instead.)
If the professor agrees that you can take the exam in Klein, you must request that the professor bring the exam to Leslie Turner in Klein 119 before the date and time of the exam.
Contact Leslie Turner and provide her the same courtesy of two days’ notice. E-mail her at lturner@smcvt.edu or stop by her office and let her know the date and time of your arrival along with the name of the course and professor.
Day of the Test
Come to the testing site on time. You are required to take the test at the same starting time of your class unless you receive written permission from your instructor to start earlier or later. Should you arrive too soon or too late without permission, you will not be allowed to take the exam.
Check your back packs, cell phones, and any other unauthorized equipment with Leslie.
Since leaving the testing site in the midst of taking the test is prohibited and potentially disqualifies the exam altogether, use the rest rooms before starting the exam. They are located up the hallway. As well, anticipate your need for a cool drink by visiting the water cooler ahead of time. (Beverages are also allowed in the testing room.)
Please be mindful of the time. You are responsible for timing your own exams.
When the test is not proctored, there will be a surveillance camera activated in the testing room to ensure proper form.
After the Exam
Return the completed test to Leslie and collect your personal items from her at this time. Keep in mind your professor may request you hand deliver the completed test in a signed and sealed envelope so if this is the case do receive Leslie’s signature as well.
Special Considerations
Leslie will help with any needs you may have for special equipment such as a computer or a tape recorder for exam taking.
If pop quizzes or short quizzes are part of the course curriculum, arrange a time to discuss options with Antonia Messuri.
