At St. Mike’s, we want our graduates to take on the world as thoughtful intellectuals who aren’t afraid to take risks and think differently.
Our liberal arts model will help you do just that.
We prepare you for that life after college with a dynamic range of courses
(we call it our Liberal Studies Curriculum) designed to foster intellectual curiosity and exploration and help you answer life's most profound questions.
You’ll be introduced to the breadth and diversity of knowledge itself. You’ll be exposed to many academic disciplines that will challenge you to think critically, express yourself, and become a lifelong learner. And, you’ll learn what it means to contribute to the common good as concerned and thoughtful citizens.
What will you gain from our Liberal Studies Curriculum?
A solid understanding of major disciplines. Humanities, social sciences, religious studies, philosophy, natural sciences, mathematics and fine arts: These are the building blocks for life as a thoughtful, well-rounded citizen, and a foundation for every career.
Breathing room to discover a new passion. (Or delve deeper into an existing one.) Our students find that their liberal studies courses often introduce them to new subjects that then become their academic focus.
Well-developed communication skills. Our emphasis on writing and verbal skills starting with the First-Year Seminar, means that St. Mike's graduates express themselves well in any professional setting. In addition to writing-intensive courses and oral presentations in each major, all students also study a foreign language to prepare them for communicating on the world stage.
Strong ethical decision making skills. As a Catholic college, we center our academics on what it means to be human. Throughout our curriculum and in each major, serious attention is given to questions of ethics and responsible citizenship. Saint Michael's students are ready to seek justice for the common good.
