What do you do for a living?

I am a Research Associate for Dowling & Partners. I currently work on the Property & Casualty Insurance Equity Research team, assisting on small cap regional commercial writers, (Re)Insurance Brokers and one warranty company. I also handle technology for the firm.

How did your experience at Saint Michael's help prepare you for your career?

The high expectations of the professors in the Economics Department helped prepare me for the demanding nature of a career in finance. I learned good study habits and the research skills which I use daily.

What is your favorite memory from your time at St. Mike's?

My two favorite classes were my senior seminar with Reza Ramazani and Econometrics with Herb Kessel. Senior Sem was a lot of work but it was enjoyable and I learned valuable lessons on research that I use daily. Econometrics was memorable because I was one of only three students in the class and the attention we were able to get was amazing and it really fostered my love of econometrics.

Do you have any advice for St. Mike's students?

Never think something won't be an amazing experience because it doesn't sound "sexy" and don't listen to people who tell you that you won't like something. Only you can decide what is for your and what isn't. Many people told me that insurance was boring and that I wouldn't like it and should pursue other things but I love it. I think I cover the most interesting sector in Financials and I love the challenge that comes with it.
