Major: History, Secondary Education
What do you do for a living?
I'm an English Language Arts/ Humanities teacher at U-32 Middle and High School in Montpelier, Vt. I'm enjoying teaching 7th and 8th graders!
How did your experience at Saint Michael's help prepare you for your career?
As a first-year teacher, I feel completely prepared to work with students and collaborate on a team because of my experience as a student in the Secondary Education department. Throughout my four years, my professors modeled for me what it looked like to be a good educator and provided me with the knowledge to be ahead of new educational trends.
What is your favorite memory from your time at St. Mike's?
It's difficult to choose my favorite memory or class because there are so many! However, one class that stood out to me was Honors Colloquium, which I took the fall semester of my senior year. During this course, students determined the topics and readings to discuss each week. We also went to a number of events on and off campus. It was the essence of a liberal arts education!
Do you have any advice for students at St. Mike's?
Get involved! One of the best parts of my college experience was joining MOVE. I participated in Middle School Mentors and went on two extended service trips to Immokalee, Florida and Panajachel, Guatemala.
