Latin Major


The Latin major requires the completion of 9 courses. 

Required for the Latin Major:


  • LA 101 - Introduction to Latin (or demonstrate equivalency by examination)
  • LA 211 - Intermediate Latin (or demonstrate equivalency by examination)
  • CL 113 - History of Rome
  • LA 410 - Senior Seminar in Latin

Take four Directed Readings:

(Students who place out of LA 101 must take at least five Directed Readings)


  • LA 310 - Directed Readings in Latin Literature (may be taken more than once)

And take one course from the following:

(Students who place out of LA 101 or LA 211 must take at least two courses from the following)


  • CL 112 - History of Greece
  • CL 118 – Ancient Medicine and the Greek & Latin Roots of Scientific Terminology
  • CL 203 - Epic and the Heroic Tradition
  • HU 101 - Ancient and Medieval Civilization
  • PH 309 - Author/Text - Ancient
  • PH 319 - Author/Text - Medieval
  • RS 321 - Judaism in the Greco-Roman World
