The incoming first-year class takes the Academic Pledge as part of the New Student Convocation, which happens at the beginning of orientation. The Vice President for Enrollment presents the students to the Dean and they recite the following words:
"We will take responsibility for our learning by preparing for classes and reflecting on our studies with others inside and outside of class.
"We will value intellectual work by acknowledging that higher education is both an opportunity and a privilege, adhering to the highest standards of academic integrity, and striving for honesty and authenticity in all that we do.
"We will search for the truth by engaging in critical thinking, considering new perspectives and ideas, striving to understand and appreciate those whose cultures and experiences differ from our own.
"We will endeavor to grow morally and spiritually by engaging in serious ethical discussions in every discipline, acknowledging that the ultimate value of education is service to others, and being open to the spiritual dimensions of our studies.
