Students interested in a career in the health sciences follow a curriculum that provides all the courses necessary to gain admission to medical, dental or other allied health graduate programs. Many students interested in a health career choose to major in one of the sciences, however, students who choose a non-science major can take the courses that are required in preparation for the various allied health graduate programs as electives.
While each professional program has specific course requirements, all of them generally include:
The Pre-Allied Health Advisory Committee advises pre-medical, pre-dental, pre-veterinary, pre-podiatry, pre-optometry, and pre-nursing students. They also offer advice to students interested in physical therapy, physician assistant and public health careers. Members of this committee seek to assist students in their course selection, their graduate school application process, and their preparation for the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT), Dental Admission Test (DAT), or Graduate Record Examination (GRE). Pre-health students should attend all regularly scheduled pre-health advisory meetings. In addition, they are welcome to meet with their assigned pre-health advisor as often as they feel necessary.
