Saint Michael's Social Science Research Center
Student research fellowships are available to students who want to pursue a research project on their own under the guidance of a faculty sponsor.
These projects are funded, and include a stipend of up to $2,100 for students to work full time on a research project for at least two months in the summer (lesser amounts are available for students who choose to supplement their research stipends with part-time employment).
The SSRC Board encourages student proposals from the traditional social sciences as well as pre-professional fields. In the last few years, the SSRC has funded several student research projects that have included:
- “Meeting the Needs of AIDS Orphans in East Africa,” By Jessica L. Bassett (Faculty Sponsor: Professor Siplon)
- “Family Organization in Civil Union Households” by Emily Shell (Faculty Sponsor: Professor Novotny)
- “The Impact of NAFTA in Vermont” by Lila Lumbra (Faculty Sponsor: Professor Ramazani)
- “The Negligent Action of the Blood Industry: Their Influence in the Passage of State Blood Shield Laws” by Brandi Hoag (Faculty Sponsor: Professor Siplon)
- “Buddhist Practices” by Sean Gratton (Faculty Sponsor: Professor Kusserow)
- “The Role of Religion in the Lives of 50 College Students” (Professors Lair and Kusserow)
- “Moral Development in Toddlers of Adolescent Mothers” by Brenda Caldwell Phillips (Faculty Sponsor: Professor Lamb).
