These pages will assist faculty members in better understanding service-learning pedagogy, and present ways in which our office can support the incorporation of service-learning into course curricula.

Developing a service-learning course or component offers the opportunity to:

  • Discover inspiration and invigoration of teaching methods.
  • Increase student contact through greater emphasis on student-centered teaching.
  • Gain a new perspective on learning and an increased understanding of how learning occurs.
  • Connect to the community with curriculum and become more aware of current societal issues as they relate to academic areas of interest.
  • Identify areas for research and publication related to current trends and issues.
