Bill Garrett

Prior to his retirement in 2009, Professor Garrett was very active in the professional associations and published widely. He was editor of Sociological Analysis: A Journal in the Sociology of Religion, 1979-1982; President of Association for the Sociology of Religion, 1985; Area Editor for Sociology/Anthropology of Religion, Religious Studies Review, 1984-1991; and served on the Governing Board of the Religious Research Association, Society for the Scientific Study of Religion, and Association for the Sociology of Religion.

He has written several books, including Seasons of Marriage and Family Life. Holt, Rinehart and Winston, 1982; Social Consequences of Religious Belief, Paragon, 1989; Religion and the Global Order, Paragon, 1991, as well as 23  articles in journals such as: Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion, Sociological Analysis, The World & I, The Christian Century, International Journal on World Peace et al.

He has also authored 18 chapters in various scholarly books, presented papers at over 70 conferences in the United States and other countries, including Mexico, Canada, India, China, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Russia, France, England, Uruguay, Martinique, and St. Martin. Besides all this, Professor Garrett also found time amid his busy teaching schedule to write over 150 book reviews.
