Academic Support
Types of Support Services Available to Students with/without Disabilities:
- Study skills workshops and individual study skills appointments (Joan Wagner, 654.2844)
- Writing Center, Library 119 (Prof. Elizabeth Inness-Brown, 654.2441)
- Peer Tutoring Program, Klein 116 (Joan Wagner, 654.2844)
- Help sessions for specific subjects (arranged by individual faculty or departments)
- Advice on choosing a major; career and personal counseling (Student Resource Center)
- To access any of these services, students may contact the Student Resource Center (654.2547), the Student Life Office (654.2566), their academic advisors, individual faculty members, or their R.A. (residence assistant). There is no charge for these services.
Support Services Available for Students with Documented Learning Disabilities, and Physical Disabilities, in addition to those services mentioned above:
- Reasonable accommodations, which may include but are not limited to the following: Extended time on tests, alternative forms of testing, a separate place for testing, note-takers, tape recording of classes, readers, textbooks on tape, adapted methods of instruction, and other modifications as deemed appropriate.
- Letters of support sent each semester to the student’s faculty and academic advisor verifying the disability and suggesting appropriate accommodations. These letters require a signed release by the student each semester in order to respect the confidentiality of student information.
- Tuition waiver (summer school classes taken at Saint Michael’s College only) for students who need to take a reduced course load during the semester due to a disability. Eligibility is dependent upon approval by the Associate Dean.
