Instructions on Undergraduate International Applications

To apply as an international student, one must possess citizenship of a country other than the United States.

The Application

Students should complete an application on-line or downdload and submit the hard-copy application form.

Applicants are also required to submit the following:

- English-Language Test Scores

If English is not your native language, you must provide official scores of TOEFL or IELTS or another acceptable test to be considered for direct admission the undergraduate program. If you score below 550, you will be considered for the Pathway Program. If you do not provide English test scores, you will be considered for the Pathway Program, and, if successful, invited to start out in the Intensive English Program. All students who score below 550  (pbTOEFL) will have their English skills  evaluated upon arrival.

Saint Michael’s accepts results from the TOEFL, IELTS, Pearsons, and other English assessment tests. The code for sending TOEFL results to Saint Michael’s College is 3757.

If you score below 550 on your paper-based TOEFL (or some other test’s equivalent score), your application will automatically be considered for conditional admittance.

- Writing Sample

The writing sample helps us evaluate your writing ability and become acquainted with you in ways different from test scores, grades, and other objective data. It is your opportunity to share with us your interests and values as well as to demonstrate your ability to organize your thoughts and express yourself.

- Reference 

A teacher, counselor, professor or other adult person who knows you well in an academic environment should complete a recommendation for you. They may use the form provided within the International Undergraduate Student Application, or they may write their own letter as long as it includes their full name, title, place of work, and contact information. - Transcripts

We require an official copy of your secondary school transcripts.

- Transfer Students

A transfer student is someone who is already completed one or more years at a different university. Transfer applicants must provide university transcripts from your current institution.

- Certification of Finances

US Visa Regulations state we must receive a copy of a bank statement indicating you have access to sufficient funds to study at Saint Michael’s for the length of your program, or one year, whichever is shorter.

- Copy of Passport

Send the photo page of your valid passport.

What's Not Required

- Application Fee

Not required for students enrolling from outside the United States.

- Standardized Test Scores

SAT Results are NOT required if English is not your native language. Of course, we will accept SAT results if you are able to take this test and wish to submit the scores.

What Happens Next?

Your application and supporting materials will be forwarded to the Admission Committee for consideration. We will contact you should we have any questions or require additional materials. Within three weeks of receiving the application, we expect to be able to provide you with a preliminary response.

If your application is successful, we will send you an official acceptance letter and ask you to provide a partially-refundable deposit. Upon receipt of this deposit, we will send you the I-20 Form. This form, along with the acceptance letter and financial documents, will enable you to apply for and receive a Student Visa at the US Embassy or Consulate in your country.
