“It took me a little while to adjust to the college life at first because everything seemed to be new to me. However, after my freshmen year I felt much better and now I am doing very well in school.

Language has been the hardest challenge for me to overcome because I am not a native English speaker. I used to have lots of trouble writing papers. However, after going to the writing center here at Saint Michael’s my writing skills have improved a lot. Believe it or not I now read tons!”

“Professors and staff members are the support system here at Saint Michael’s. I especially felt comfortable going to the Student Life Office and the Student Resource Center whenever I needed help. The people there were always ready to lend a hand with a smile on their faces. My experience at Saint Michael’s has most definitely prepared me for the demanding work of graduate school.

I have had the privilege to make friends from so many different places and of so many different backgrounds—it’s unbelievable how many different people you’ll encounter.”

“Between the array of clubs and groups that exist on campus and the wonderful personal relationships that are built with the faculty, I was able to find many ways in which to make the best of my time at Saint Michael's.

I had the opportunity to study abroad in Madrid, Spain; participated in a service learning trip in Ghana. I had my internship at NBC affiliate News Channel 5 and am now planning on going to graduate school.

I firmly believe that my Saint Michael's education has prepared me in a way that will stay with me when I enter another institution or the workforce.

“As an International student coming from the Caribbean, I am often asked what was it that attracted me to attend a college in Vermont. My answer is always simple: Saint Michael's not only prepares students academically for the world of work but also has a strong and supportive community. It truly is a home away from home.”

“The first feeling I got when I stepped onto the Saint Michael's campus is that I belonged here! I am enjoying Vermont a lot because it’s small and it’s not busy like the big city I come from! This helps because I can focus on my work rather than becoming side tracked.

The high school I went to was very diverse—Saint Michael's is not as diverse as my high school. This was challenging and I had to adjust myself, but I have settled down and met lots of people. I believe I will be a stronger person because of my experience here.”

“When choosing a College most people worry about going far from home and like most people I was frightened too. But I found myself surrounded with students that made me feel comfortable and professors who go the extra mile.

Besides the higher education Saint Michael’s offers, students are given opportunities to run for class president or join clubs such MLK, Diversity club or the Wilderness Program that allows students to do activities such as mountain climbing, biking, kayaking. We work hard, then play hard!”

“The main challenges I’ve had to overcome is adjusting to the increased academic work load and balancing that with my involvement on campus. Professors here are very easy to approach when I have any difficulty and the fact that we are assigned academic advisors is very key to making a smooth transition.

Overall the activities and leadership opportunities I am involved in push me out of my ‘comfort zone’, better my interpersonal skills and fuel my excitement for my remaining years at Saint Mike's!”
