Attorney joins Saint Michael's College Board of Trustees
COLCHESTER, VT: John J. Bergeron, attorney since 1989 with Bergeron, Paradis & Fitzpatrick, LLP, of Burlington, has joined the Board of Trustees of Saint Michael’s College. Mr. Bergeron attended his first full meeting of the board of the liberal arts residential Catholic college October 5-7. He will serve a three-year term on the 30-member board, which meets on the college’s campus in Colchester.

Mr. Bergeron, a 1970 graduate of Saint Michael’s College, earned a law degree from the Catholic University of America School of Law in 1973.

Mr. Bergeron’s career followed a path from his being Deputy State’s Attorney for Chittenden County, 1973-76, to instructor in criminal law and procedure at Champlain College, 1976-79, while also being part of Desautels & Bergeron, 1976-84, to his own Law Offices of John J. Bergeron from 1984-89, and now Bergeron, Paradis & Fitzpatrick.

Mr. Bergeron is a member of the Saint Michael's College Career Advisory Network, a former Saint Michael’s Associate Trustee, a member of the St. Anne’s Shrine Advisory Board, the Vermont Bar Association and the American Trial Lawyers Association.

A resident of South Burlington, John Bergeron and his wife Cathryn H. Bergeron have three children, Jennifer, Adam and Aaron.

College admissions expert joins Saint Michael's College Board of Trustees
COLCHESTER, VT: Patricia A. Casey, senior vice president of Maguire Associates, consultants for higher education located in Concord, Mass., has joined the Board of Trustees of Saint Michael’s College. Ms. Casey attended her first full meeting of the board of the liberal arts residential Catholic college October 5-7. She will serve a three-year term on the 30-member board, which meets on the college’s campus in the Burlington area of Vermont.

“I’ve always admired Saint Michael’s,” Ms. Casey said. “My brother went to Saint Michael’s and my good friend Nancy Fink, a graduate and former board member, always spoke highly of the college.”

A member of Maguire Associates since 1994, Ms. Casey is an expert in enrollment and marketing for higher education. She worked in undergraduate admissions at Boston College (1975-82) and at Santa Clara University where she was associate director of undergraduate admissions (1985-95). She was a senior development officer at Boston College (1982-85).

“I’m honored to be able to bring my expertise to the board, while also learning from an institution that has already done such a great job in its position as a strong Catholic liberal arts college,” Ms. Casey said.

Ms. Casey is a trustee of Boston College High School and a member of the development committee for New England Jesuit Province.

A resident of Newton, Mass., Pat Casey and her husband Paul Hennessey have two children, Kathleen and Tom.

Financial adviser joins Saint Michael's College Board of Trustees
COLCHESTER, VT: Donald R. Dion, Jr., founder, president and chief investment officer of Dion Money Management of Williamstown, Mass., has joined the Board of Trustees of Saint Michael’s College. Mr. Dion attended his first full meeting of the board of the liberal arts residential Catholic college October 5-7. He will serve a three-year term on the 30-member board, which meets on the college’s campus in the Burlington area of Vermont.

Mr. Dion, a 1976 graduate of Saint Michael’s College, earned a law degree from the University of Maine School of Law in 1979 and an LL.M. degree in taxation from Boston University School of Law in 1982.

Mr. Dion joined Ernst & Young as a CPA in Boston and served there from 1979 to 1983, and then joined Warner & Stackpole in Boston and practiced corporate and tax law from 1983 to l985, at which time he became executive vice president of finance, treasurer and director of Bluegreen Corporation, NYSE, serving till 1987. He was also president of Patten Financial Services Corp of Stamford, Vt., from 1985 to 1987.

In 1987 he founded the company, Litchfield Financial Corporation and served as chairman and CEO from 1987 to 1995. He has served as president and chief investment strategist at Fidelity Independent Adviser Newsletter and at Dion Money Management both, from 1995 to the present.

Mr. Dion is co-chair of the Berkshire United Way of North Adams, Mass., a corporator of South Adams Savings Bank in Adams, Mass., and a member of the Williams College Faculty Club in Williamstown, Mass.

A resident of Williamstown, Don Dion and his wife Laura Dion have one daughter, Carolyn.

Finance expert joins Saint Michael's College Board of Trustees
COLCHESTER, VT: Mark J. Doran, general partner of Freeman Spogli & Co., New York, N.Y., has joined the Board of Trustees of Saint Michael’s College. Mr. Doran attended his first full meeting of the board of the liberal arts residential Catholic college October 5-7. He will serve a three-year term on the 30-member board, which meets on the college’s campus in the Burlington area of Vermont.

A 1986 graduate of Saint Michael's College with degrees in both economics and political science, Mr. Doran has been with Freeman Spogli, an equity investment firm, since 1988. He was a corporate finance analyst with Kidder, Peabody & Co., in New York from 1986 to 1988.

Mr. Doran has been a director of the following organizations: Duff & Phelps, 1991-93; Brylane, 1993-98; AFC Enterprises, 1995-2001; Advance Auto Parts, 1998-2003; Century Maintenance Supply, 1998-2003; Medical Arts Press Corporation, 1999-2000; Ross-Simons, 2001-present, and Bright Now Dental, 2005-present.

A resident of Rye, N.Y., Mark Doran and his wife MaryEllen Loftus-Doran have three children, Reagan, Kyle and Maelin.

Alumni association president joins Saint Michael's College Board of Trustees
COLCHESTER, VT: Barbara C. Gallant, past president of the Saint Michael's College alumni board of directors, has been named to the Saint Michael’s Board of Trustees. Ms. Gallant, a 1982 graduate of Saint Michael’s College, attended her first full meeting of the board of the liberal arts residential Catholic college October 5-7. She will serve a three-year term on the 30-member board, which meets on the college’s campus in the Burlington area of Vermont.

Ms. Gallant, a guidance counselor at the Hampstead Central School, served previously as a guidance counselor at Salem High School in Salem, N.H., from 1998 to 2002 and as a counselor at Alvirne High School in Hudson from 1995 to 1998. Ms. Gallant received a master’s degree from Rivier College in 1995.

Barbara Gallant has been a dedicated volunteer for Saint Michael's College since graduation. She participated in the adopt-a-school program for the admission office and chaired the alumni awards committee, in addition to serving as president of the alumni association. Ms. Gallant is also a sixth grade CCD teacher for St. Anne’s Parish and is an active parent volunteer with her PTA.

A resident of Hampstead, N.H., Barbara.Gallant and her husband Rendle Gallant have a son, Josh.

Insurance executive joins Saint Michael's College Board of Trustees
COLCHESTER, VT: Celine R. Paquette, president and owner of Paquette’s Insurance Agency of Champlain, N.Y., has been named to the Saint Michael’s Board of Trustees. Ms. Paquette, Clinton County Legislator from 1995 to the present and a former school principal, attended her first full meeting of the board of the liberal arts residential Catholic college October 5-7. She will serve a three-year term on the 30-member board, which meets on the college’s campus in the Burlington area of Vermont.

Ms. Paquette was principal of the Ticonderoga, N.Y., middle school from 1984 to 1987, when she started her insurance agency. She was a teacher, supervisor and administrator in East Greenbush, N.Y., from 1960 to 1984, and at the same time, from 1965 to 1987 was an adjunct instructor at Russell Sage College, SUNY, Plattsburgh; SUNY, Cortland, and the University of Wisconsin at Eau Clair.

Ms. Paquette is currently chair of the Diocese of Ogdensburg Investment Committee, vice-chair of the Hudson-Fulton-Champlain Quadricentennial Commission (2009), appointed by Gov. Pataki; on the board of the Battle of Plattsburgh Association, chair of the St. Anne’s Shrine Advisory Board in Isle LaMotte, Vt., and was, from 1998 to 2006, on the board of trustees of the State University of New York, appointed by Gov. Pataki.

Celine Paquette earned a BS and an RN from the School Nurse-Teacher Education program of SUNY, Plattsburgh, an MS in counseling from SUNY, Albany, and an Ed.D. degree in educational administration from SUNY, Albany.

Ernest Pomerleau joins Saint Michael's College Board of Trustees
COLCHESTER, VT: Ernest A. Pomerleau, president of Pomerleau Real Estate of Burlington, has joined the Board of Trustees of Saint Michael’s College. Mr. Pomerleau, a 1969 graduate of Saint Michael’s, attended his first full meeting of the board of the liberal arts residential Catholic college October 5-7. He will serve a three-year term on the 30-member board, which meets on the college’s campus in Colchester.

Mr. Pomerleau has held or is currently holding directorships for the following organizations: Director, the Chittenden Bank; member advisory board, Socially Responsible Banking; treasurer, Greater Burlington Industrial Corporation (BGIC), Cynosure, Visiting Nurse Association, Vermont Community Foundation, and International Council of Shopping Centers, Government Affairs Committee.

Mr. Pomerleau is serving the local community as a member of the Burlington Police Foundation Advisory Board. He is recipient of the Thomas Chittenden Award for Exemplary Service, Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce; of the 2003 Harry Behney Award, and of the 1984 Nathan Harris Award from the Downtown Burlington Association.

A resident of Burlington, Ernie Pomerleau is married to Dee Pomerleau. They have a daughter, Jessica.

Saint Michael’s College, founded in 1904 by the Society of St. Edmund and headed by President Marc A. vanderHeyden, has been identified by U. S. News & World Report for 17 consecutive years as one of the top15 Master’s Universities in the North. A liberal arts, residential, Catholic college located in the Burlington area of Vermont, Saint Michael’s was recently invited to sponsor a chapter of the prestigious academic honor society, Phi Beta Kappa, on campus. Saint Michael’s has 1,950 full-time undergraduate students, and some 500 graduate students and 200 international students, studying part time. The College was named recently by Newsweek magazine a “Hidden Treasure,” one of 30 colleges recommended most frequently by guidance counselors for being “schools that deserve more national recognition.” Saint Michael’s is included in Princeton Review’s The Best 361 Colleges: 2007 Edition.
