Areas of Expertise/Research Interests:

Testimonial:
Many of my classes have less than 15 people in them. Of course, in small classes there's more responsibility to do the work - but you learn more that way.
What do you like most about teaching/working at Saint Michael's College?
I like best working one-on-one with students, especially on their senior projects, bringing their ideas into a research project that we collaborate on, and then encouraging them through stages of researching, writing, presenting at conferences and hopefully even publishing it.
What do you like about Saint Michael's students?
They're generally a very happy bunch of students who appreciate what professors do. Almost all my students come to class ready to do the work and wanting to do well. I don't think professors always get that at larger colleges.
What is your favorite class to teach, and why?
My favorite class to teach is Sexual Ethics as a first year seminar. I love teaching people in their first year of college when they're just figuring out how to make the most of their college years. I also love the discussions we have in this class. We always have a full range of opinions, arguments, and philosophies about any topic.
What kinds of unique opportunities are available to students in your classes or department?
The year-long practicum experience in psychology is a fantastic way for students to get their first clinical "job" and excellent supervision during it. They have a professor and an on-site supervisor and they work 8-10 hours a week. Many of our students are offered jobs after their year in placement.
