Program: Chemistry/Mathematics

Hometown: St. Albans, VT

Testimonial: Saint Mike's is unique in that you feel a true sense of community as soon as you step on campus.

Have you had any internship or study abroad experiences? After my first year I conducted research on campus with Professor Findley under a research grant from the NASA through the Vermont Space Grant Consortium. During the summer of 2008, I served in a Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) position funded by the National Science Foundation.

What do you like to do outside of the classroom? I can usually be found in Tarrant or on Doc Jacobs field with the Saint Michael's softball team. I also enjoy volunteer work and actively help out at pitching clinics and various softball practices back in my hometown. During winter break I volunteer with the MOVE organization (Mobilization of Volunteer Efforts) through their extended service trips, which have brought me to Selma, Alabama, and the Big Thicket National Preserve, Texas, to conduct community service work.

What do you plan to do after graduation? My goals are to go to graduate school to earn my Ph.D. in organic chemistry and then pursue research in the pharmaceutical industry.

What would you say to prospective students considering Saint Michael's College? You really get to form close-knit relationships not only with your peers but with the faculty and staff as well. The size of the college also opens up a lot of opportunities that would not be readily available to undergraduates at a larger institution.
