Areas of Expertise/Research Interests:
Sports psychology; abnormal psychology; mentoring; theories of counseling
Testimonial:
Saint Michael's is home to a community-based learning environment which allows me to interact with so many students on a regular basis. It is fascinating to challenge them to think critically and then actually watch them learn as the "light goes on" and they "get it."
What inspires students the most in your classes and/or your academic area? Students are so curious about human behavior - why do people do what they do? How are we constructed by our early experiences, our families, our society? Students want to better understand all of this.
What do you like about Saint Michael's students?
Their honesty and their willingness to be challenged by what and how I teach.
What is your favorite class to teach, and why?
I actually thoroughly enjoy each of my classes. I get to teach Theories of Counseling in the fall semester and alternate that with Men & Masculinities in the spring.
What kinds of unique opportunities are available to students in your classes or department?
Collaborating with faculty, whether it be during in-class presentations or on their papers. Students have the opportunity to do independent research and to explore so many different topics which complement their interests in the field of psychology or gender studies.
Favorite quote: "Labels belong on soup cans, not on people."
