Why support the Saint Michael's Fund?

Exceptional Academic Experience
Saint Michael's dynamic and challenging learning environment means we educate the whole person through close student-professor interaction, including meaningful research, an opportunity most frequently available only at the graduate level.
  • Our students think globally with over 30 percent studying abroad
  • Our student:faculty ratio is 12:1
  • Our faculty are outstanding: we have 154 full-time faculty members, 94 percent
of whom hold a Ph.D. or highest appropriate degree
  • Our students think critically: all Saint Michael’s seniors complete a capstone project in their majors – either a thesis paper or research project.

Faith, Culture and Community
Saint Michael's cares about its community and the world. At our heart are the Edmundite traditions of faith, community and service. Campus organizations like Edmundite Campus Ministry, MOVE, Fire and Rescue, the Student Association and others provide opportunities for students to become fully educated, engaged and compassionate members of society.
  • MOVE coordinates 25 unique programs that engage over 550 students each year in performing approximately 29,000 hours of community service locally, domestically and internationally
  • The Fire and Rescue Squad responds to 3,200 calls a year in service to the surrounding community.

Student Relief (Scholarships)
We beleive that ability, not ability to pay, should determine who can receive a Saint Michael’s education. Saint Michael’s is committed to providing scholarship funds that make it possible for students to attend or return to college, which is especially important at a time of increasing levels of student debt and the difficulties of securing loans.

  • 84 percent of students receive financial aid
  • The average scholarship amount funded by Saint Michael’s
    is $12,000.

Fitness, Health/Wellness and Sports
Learning continues outside our classrooms. From varsity to club to intramural, the athletic and recreational activities at Saint Michael’s enhance students’ success. Improvements in recreational equipment and facilities are essential for the college and our students to remain competitive.
  • 25 percent of Saint Michael’s students participate in 21 varsity sports (10 for men, 11 for women) and many more students participate in intramural teams
  • The Wilderness Program reaches more than 40 percent of our students
  • We encourage our students to explore the best of Vermont with a season pass to Smugglers’ Notch Ski Resort.

The Tuition Gap
Quality education, which includes excellent faculty, facilities and technology, is expensive. It costs more than $43,000 a year to educate a Saint Michael's student. Roughly 13 percent of that isn't covered by tuition.

The Saint Michael's Fund needs to contribute $2 million from alumni, parents and friends to help fill the gap this year. That's the equivalent of a $100 gift from each of our alumni and parents. If we were to reach the same goal by increasing the endowment, we would need to raise the endowment by nearly $45 million.

Did You Know?

There are Saint Michael’s College alumni in every state other than South Dakota. (If you’re a graduate living in South Dakota, let us know!)
