Yes, to receive the Saint Michael’s College recommendation. If you complete only part of the program, you will need to apply for transcript review to the Department of Education at licensing@doe.state.vt.us or 802.828.2445.
Can I take some of the courses outside Saint Michael’s College?
Our 18-credit program fulfills all State of Vermont required ESL Standards. If you wish to take alternative courses, you will need to apply directly to the Vermont Department of Education for transcript review.
Do I need to be in the MATESOL program to add the ESL endorsement?
No. The 18-credit Additional ESL Endorsement Program is self-contained.
Can I take any of these courses online?
Most of our ESL Endorsement courses can be taken at least partially online in some semesters. Contact the ESL Endorsement Coordinator, Elizabeth O’Dowd (eodowd@smcvt.edu, 802.654.2276).
My previous teaching license has expired. Which courses do I need to update my license and add the ESL endorsement?
Contact the state at licensing@doe.state.vt.us or 802.828.2445 to establish the best way to renew your license and be certified in ESL. Be prepared to document fulfillment of required Vermont ESL Standards either through coursework or through practical experience.
How do I meet the new “Additional Requirement” (Practicum)?
The additional requirement of practice teaching is embedded in courses GSL 502, 546, and 547. The Endorsement Coordinator or your course instructors can often help you find placement.
