MATESOL Online Strand

Beginning summer term  (June, 2012), Saint Michael's Master's in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (MATESOL) can give you more flexibility than ever. You can complete the Master's degree in TESOL by spending two summers on campus in Vermont and taking three courses online wherever you live in the world.

In six weeks of study the first summer, you take:

  • Foundations of Linguistics (4 credits)
  • Theory and Methods of TESOL (4 credits)
  • Master's Seminar (2 credits)
  • Practicum I (2 credits)

Then, add in three online courses:

  • Curriculum and Syllabus Design (4 credits, taken during the fall term)
  • Reading and Writing in TESOL (4 credits, taken during the spring term)
  • Computer-Assisted Language Learning (4 credits, taken during the late spring)

Finally, in your last sumer, you take your last 12 credits:

  • Oral Skills in TESOL (4 credits)
  • English Grammar (4 credits)
  • Testing and Assessment in TESOL (2 credits)
  • Practicum II (2 credits)

And--with successful completion of your Capstone Paper--you have completed your Master's in TESOL! This way you get the best of both the campus experience and the flexibility of online learning.
