Candidacy
A student in the M.Ed., Licensure, or C.A.G.S. programs must apply for Candidacy after taking six credits, but prior to the completion of 12 credits. Please review the Candidacy Guidelines below before completing the Candidacy Form.
Note: The Writing Assessment must be completed by M.Ed. and Licensure students prior to submitting the Candidacy Form. Students' writing will be assessed through their written assignments in GED 558 Introduction to Educational Research and GED 516 Teacher as a Decision Maker. Two instructors will read the assignments - one for content and one for writing. Students whose writing does not meet the department's standards by the end of GED 558 or GED 516 will take GED 604 Teacher Writing, Writing Teachers.
Candidacy Guidelines
The purpose of the Candidacy Form is to plan and schedule your course of study. The Candidacy Form must be approved by your academic advisor and the director of Graduate Programs in Education before it can be placed on file in the Registrar’s Office. Because this form includes proposed courses, portions can be changed at a later date with your advisor's approval. If you change your concentration, a new form must be submitted.
- List the courses you have taken, plan to take and wish to transfer from another institution with the number of credits and grade (if completed) for each course. List completed courses first.
- If you know exactly which courses you propose to take, please list them. If you do not know specific course names, list topic areas and indicate how many credits you plan to take in each.
- You must select a specific M.Ed. concentration (including Licensure students), and your credits must total 36 (or the total required for your chosen concentration, i.e., Arts in Education, Curriculum, Information Technology, Reading, School Leadership, or Special Education).
- If you wish to transfer credits, complete the Transfer of Credit form (see the Program Office for that form) and submit to that office with official transcripts, including complete information about the course(s). Include $10 for each credit transferred into your program of study.
- Be sure to attach your "Statement of Goals" when you submit the form.
