  • Licensure with Special Educator or Consulting Teacher/Learning Specialist
  • Endorsement
  • M.Ed. Degree
  • Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study

Program Requirements

Master of Education or Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies programs are designed to lead to Vermont teacher licensure or endorsement as either a special educator or consulting teacher. Students may also design an M.Ed. or a C.A.G.S. program with a concentration in general special education.

Special Educator and Consulting Teacher Endorsements

Already licensed teachers working towards a special educator endorsement take 10 required courses and 2 elective courses for a total of 37 credits. These courses with their corresponding course descriptions are listed in our Graduate Catalogue under M.Ed. with Endorsement as Special Educator.

Already licensed teachers working towards a consulting teacher endorsement take all the required courses for the special educator endorsement (above) plus 4 additional courses (13 additional credits). These four additional courses with their corresponding course descriptions are listed in our Graduate Catalogue under M.Ed. with Endorsement as Consulting Teacher.

If a student does not currently hold a teaching license, a program can be developed that leads to an initial teaching license with a special education endorsement.
