Program Requirements

Master of Education or Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies programs are designed to lead to Vermont teacher licensure or endorsement as either a special educator or consulting teacher. Students may also design an M.Ed. or a C.A.G.S. program with a concentration in general special education.

M.Ed. with a Concentration in Special Education

Students not currently holding a teaching license may work toward their M.Ed. with a concentration in Special Education. The required courses with their corresponding course descriptions are listed in our Graduate Catalogue under M.Ed. with Special Education Concentration.

M.Ed. with Initial Special Educator License

Students not currently holding a teaching license may work toward their M.Ed. with a concentration in Special Education. The required courses with their corresponding course descriptions are listed in our Graduate Catalogue under Licensure Special Educator.

M.Ed. with Endorsement as Special Educator

Already licensed teachers working toward their M.Ed. with a concentration in special education and a special educator endorsement take 10 required courses and 2 elective courses for a total of 37 credits. These courses with their corresponding course descriptions are listed in our Graduate Catalogue under M.Ed. with Endorsement as Special Educator.

M.Ed. with Endorsement as Consulting Teacher

Already licensed special education teachers working toward their M.Ed. with a concentration in special education and a consulting teacher endorsement take 6 additional courses (19 additional credits). The remaining 17 credits would be electives selected with the advisor.  Courses with their corresponding course descriptions are listed in our Graduate Catalogue under M.Ed. with Endorsement as Consulting Teacher.

Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (C.A.G.S.) with concentration in Special Education (30 credits): Requirements for the C.A.G.S. Program are designed with the advisor.
