Dr. Johnson has been in the Saint Michael's Education Department for twelve years, during which time she has played a variety of roles. She is currently the coordinator of the graduate concentrations in curriculum and elementary education, as well as the self-designed concentrations. She is also the coordinator of a Spirituality in Education Program. She teaches curriculum and pedagogy courses in both the undergraduate and the graduate departments. She has published many articles in the areas of creativity, multiple intelligences and spirituality as they relate to human development and education. Her most recent publication is on the educational theory of philosopher William James.

Dr. Toomey came to St. Michael's in 1981 and has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in special education, focusing on students with language-based learning disabilities. Her research has been in the area of classroom discourse, trying to understand the language skills that students need to be successful in the classroom. More recently she took over as the Coordinator of the Adult Education Program which allowed her to extend her interest to adult development and learning. She is particularly interested in understanding how adults become both self-directed learners and members of learning communities.

Kristin GehsmannKristin M. Gehsmann

Dr. Gehsmann joined the Education Department at Saint Michael's College in 2006.  A specialist in literacy development and assessment, she teaches literacy assessment to education majors and oversees graduate students seeking reading specialist endorsement in a practicum course. She also oversees the program for graduate students who concentrate in reading education.  An educational consultant of Gehsmann Educational Consulting, 2002-present, Gehsmann has consulting relationships with more than 12 Vermont schools in Chittenden and Franklin counties.

Dr. Silverman is the Coordinator of Arts in Education program as well as the Co-coordinator for the Elementary and Teaching English as a Second Language licensure endorsement areas. His area of expertise is in aesthetic education and integrating arts into the classroom. He has presented many workshops at conferences and has authored an article entitled "Sketching Aesthetic Boundaries in Experiencing Learning." He has presented at workshops on aesthetic inquiry, such as the International Art Education Conference held in New York City. He has served as Chair of the Vermont Alliance for Arts Education and has worked with many school districts in helping them design arts curriculum.

Dr. Judson is the director of graduate education and coordinator/advisor for the M.Ed. information technology concentration. Her research interests relate to the integration of one computer into a constructivist classroom. She teaches GED 597: Integrating Technology into the Curriculum, GED 558: Introduction to Educational Research, GED 699: Capstone Seminar and supervises student teachers. Before working at Saint Michael's College, Dr. Judson was the computer coordinator at the Hinesburg Elementary School, computer teacher in southern Vermont, and pre-school teacher for six years at the Eliot-Pearson Children's School, the lab school for Tufts University.

Ms. Donovan is responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of Special Education.  She is also advising graduate students in the Special Education program.  She worked as a Special Educator for 12 years in CESU prior to coming to the college. She has also taught in Costa Rica and in the Eckerd Wilderness System.  Karen currently teaches ED 340- Individual Differences, GED 633- Legal and Professional Issues in Special Education, GED 661 Designing programs for Children with Disabilities, and GED 662- Implementing and Evaluating Instructional Programs.
